Groom:

Well, there is much to do. This will of course depend on the complexity of your wedding but here are some things to think about and adapt to yourself.

6 - 12 Months Before:

Buy the ring. Don't think about it, don't promise to get it next payday! Just buy the ring.

Sit down with your fiancée and set the date and type of wedding you want.

Start thinking about your guest list.

Discuss and finalise a budget with your fiancée.

Select your best man and the other members of your wedding party.

3 - 6 Months:

Shop with fiancée for a wedding band that goes with her engagement ring and your ring.

Complete guest list and include names, addresses and phone numbers. This will take some time.

Start thinking of the honeymoon, and begin working with a travel agent. Be fair to them if you are just tyre kicking at the start.

Select tuxedo or suit or suitable attire with your fiancée. Think ahead to what the weather is likely to be like on the day.

Try to have your best man with you to get a good fitting, or have the measurements of all attendants in your party to take with you.

Choose reception music. Band, DJ, Soloist?. Think about the range of guests.

If you don't already live together discuss your post-wedding living arrangements. You go to her, she comes to you or you start afresh in a new location?

Confirm with your employers the dates of your wedding and honeymoon.

Check the budget - how's it going ?

2 Months Before:

Meet with the priest or celebrant to discuss ceremony details. Be prepared to answer a few questions about yourself and your future wife.

Make sure the best man has read the "best man" section so he knows his responsibilities. He can be a great help with the lead up to the wedding.

Plan your Bucks night. Be careful!

Make sure accommodation is organised for out-of-town guests.

Finalise the reception seating layout with your fiancée. Your fiancée doesn't know your family as well as you do, make sure everybody will be comfortable.

Check your fitness, no really! Its been a long haul and you need to be relaxed as best you can. Cut down on the fatty food and grab an apple.

1 Month to go:

Go purchase gifts for the guys in your wedding party.

Buy a VERY special gift for your wife, you won't regret it.

Check on where the wedding bands are. Follow up on EVERYTHING.

Offer to help your fiancee with final details. Be prepared to be delegated to.

Think about change of address details.

Go to the doctor for get a minor checkup and discuss any nerves that may arise on the day.

2 Weeks:

Pick up your marriage license.

Finalise the wedding transportation. Think also about elderly relatives.

Finalise the honeymoon details.

Get your hair cut this week, it will look better on the day if it has time to grow in.

Try to give all work responsibilities to someone else and FORGET about them for a couple of weeks.

Enjoy your Bucks night.

1 Week left:

Pick up your wedding day attire.

Leave work a few days early.

Organise the wedding party for the wedding rehearsal and dinner.

The Night Before:

Delegate, delegate, you have no time to worry about things now.

Send the best man out for headache tablets, high energy drinks and to organise breakfast.

Plan a quiet night with the boys, eat BEFORE you start to drink.
